  When merging clip w/ 4 audio trx suddenly 17 tracks created

  Hi, I am new to Premiere. I am working on a project with Cam video and audio and syncing to external 4 mono track audio..I can sync fine, but when I merge the clips the new clip created has 17 audio tracks, although only tracks 1,6,11,16,and 17 actually have audio on them.I have nothing set up in preferences asking for 17 tracks..what gives? Thanks so much!!
  I can modify audio track layout and force 5 tracks and route each channel to track 1-5, but in source window still shows 17 audio tracks.
