  • When Copy/Paste to add Project 2 to Project 1, Clips 720p50 and DVCAM change size

Posted by Nhan Nguyen dinh on August 8, 2011 at 3:50 pm

    Hello,
I edit my film in two projects. I use 1440-1080, 720p50, and DVCAM clips. After editing, I want to assembly the second project to the first project:
    (FCP7, Mac Pro Snow Leopard)

1 / Copy (Command C) all elements of the Browser of the Project 2 then Paste (Command V) on the Browser (Browser) of Project 1.
2 / Copy (Command C) all elements of the Time Line of the Project 2 then Paste (Command V) on the Time Line of Project 1.
Images of Project 2 are : 1440-1080, 720p50, and DVCAM.
Once in the Project 1, all 720p50, and DVCAM clip change their size. No change for 1440-1080.

    Example :
On the Browser of the original Project 2, about the Clip AA, I can read :
    Size: 960×720
    Compressor: DVC PRO HD 720p50
    Pixel Aspect: 960×720

After Copying that Clip AA from the Browser of Project 2, I Paste that Clip AA to the Browser of Project 1. I can read about that Clip in the Browser of the Project 1 :
    Size: 1440×1080
    Compressor: DVC PRO HD 720p50
    Pixel Aspect: 960×720

    And another Manipulation:
Instead of Copy / Paste Clip AA (720p50) of the Project 2 to the Project 1, I drag the Clip AA from my Hard Drive directly to the Browser of the Project 1, The Clip is NORMAL (Size: 960×720) as the case when it was in the original Project 2 .

    My questions are:
    – Why, by Copy / Paste the Clip AA of the Project 2 to Project 1, the clip AA changes size?
    – How to fix it ?

    Thank you for help

    Hi Nhan,
FC is clearly misbehaving, but no idea how to fix it (trashing preferences? repairing permissions?)
    I suggest you this way:
Before copying the footage from Project2 to Project1, copy&paste the sequence(s) from Project 2 to Project 1.
Just drag&drop the sequence icon from browser to browser.
Open the sequence now in Project 1.
Then drag or copy the footage from browser to browser.

You can have as many projects (so Browsers) open as your Mac allows.
No problems in dragging thing from Browser to Browser or even from sequence to sequence.

    HI Rafael,
I could not have the Browser of Project 1 and the Browser of Project 2 on the desktop in the same time.
So I cannot drag Sequence from Browser to Browser.
Please advise me how to have that.
    Thanks
    Nhan

Click and drag one of the Browsers tabs to separate it from the other.
You should be able to put them side by side.
