Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Whatta ya know, an iPhone app with FCP keyboard commands

Shortcut buttons in the interface are much more useful and efficient than using your iPhone for keyboard commands.

    Tools > Button List

Put the commands you use the most in the Sequence window. This is what I’ve been doing for years. Much easier than using my keyboard, tablet and iPhone all at once.

I’d agree with Walter, but yeah having a secondary Keylist on an iPhone or especially an iPad would be so darn tempting .

Now a dedicated iPad app I could see with the additional real estate of that device. I’ve played with the Tangent Wave Lite app and I’m working with another developer of a color grading app for the iPad.

In those cases, the iPad becomes a true controller, not just a shortcut call up. Jog / shuttle / Scrolling the timeline, controlling the 3 Way CC tool or Colorista Tool, running the audio faders in realtime, controlling video in the Viewer or Canvas, etc…

Things like that would turn the iPad into a nice surface controller that could almost replace a Wacom tablet and if it was done right, a mouse. If you have an iPad, download the Tangent Wave Lite and see how nice that works when in Color. I’d love to see more development of full control surface type of apps for FCP, Soundtrack Pro and Motion.

In my daydreams I see Apple coming out with a touch-screen that replaces the graphics tablet, mouse and keyboard. I would love to be able to control everything on one surface with just my fingers. Sometimes when I sit down at my Wacom tablet, I unconsciously start sliding my finger on it… then I remember the stylus.

I don’t know what you are referring to. Can you elaborate?

Because you can’t use the built-in button list while driving…

Studying your FCP commands on the go is just as important to safe driving as texting and emailing.

Well having a iPad next to me, the Command List on one of the screens or a print out is all the same to me.
Besides you must have the iPad first… 🙂

I think iPad as a interface multitouch Timeline?? 🙂

Sure you can, we use them all day long here. That’s why it’s there. So you can load all the buttons you need in your timeline, viewer, canvas, effects window, just about anywhere you need them. I have about 30 commands loaded and ready at all times in my Sequence alone.

So absolutely positively you can use the built-in button list while working.

[David Roth Weiss] “Studying your FCP commands on the go is just as important to safe driving as texting and emailing.”

Why? I couldn’t tell you what all the FCP commands are. The button list is so easy you don’t have to remember. That’s the beauty of it. Why remember 100 commands when you can have them at your fingertip at all times. Click and go.
