  • What’s up with AC-3 Pro in Vegas Pro 8.0c????

    Posted by Don Smith on March 13, 2009 at 6:10 pm

    I’ve been using the older Pro 8.0 version (a or b maybe?) and never upgraded to C. It was time to reformat and reinstall everything on my editing computer, so I decided to upgrade to the current 8.0c version. So I went to render an AC-3 file for a DVD I’m making (which needs to get out today, soon by the way) and I select Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro since I’m quite sure that’s what I’ve always used on my older version. And I remember tweaking it a bit under the custom feature to adjust the level for TV. I can’t remember what settings were changed, I was going to search the posts to find that answer. Whatever it was, I made a new Template for DVD and everything always came out great. However, in attempting this with the 8.0c version, when I clicked on custom, up comes a splash screen telling me I need the $129 Professional encoder. WTF???

    Well that’s not going to happen. So it looks to me like the only one I can use without puchasing the encoder is the “Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio” type with the Stereo DVD template.

    Can anyone shed some light on this? Why did the first 8.0 version allow me to use the AC-3 Pro type and do the tweaks, but 8.0c won’t? I hope I don’t have to revert back to the older version (which worked just fine for my purposes btw).

    Try installing Your DVD Architect Pro 5….
    The Dolby Digital AC-3pro comes with it…You should be back in business after that.

    Thanks, Steve. It was installed before I reformatted, and isn’t now, so that’s probably it. By the way, do you know the “tweaks” for the AC-3 pro setting for the right playback on TV levels? Change something to 31 or something like that.

    AC3 “tweaks”:
    Encode set to AC3;
    Click on Custom tab;
    On the first tab, set diag. norm to” -31″;
    On the last tab marked Preprocessing, set the Line Mode Profile
    and RF Mode Profile mode to “none”;
    Save this as a preset.

    More AC3 “tweaks” (from a poster on the Sony Vegas forum – use at your own discretion):
    Dialog Norm at -31 (this sets it at unity gain)
    RF and Line Mode DRC Off (WYHIWYG)
    DC High Pass Filter On (this operates at <=3Hz and takes DC bias out of the mix) Bandwidth Low Pass Filter On (this takes aliasing noise at >20kHz out of the encode, but it also lowered the rendered volume by -0.1dB)

    I searched for this topic, but the last response was in March, so I think it safe to post a new thread, yes?

    I don’t mean to dredge this post up again, but I am having an issue with rendering out to AC-3 Pro.

    I installed both Vegas Pro 8.0c (in 2008 upgrade from Trial) and later DVD Architect Pro 5.0 (summer 2009, also Trial upgrade), but I have since installed Vegas Pro 9.0c (last October, Trial upgrade). I have never used the AC-3 Pro or Studio plugins in Vegas Pro 8.x as I have never used Vegas to make DVDs…until now when my sister asked that I do so for her.

    Well, when I selected to rendered out my audio to AC-3 Pro it said the plugin was not unlocked and I should install DVDA Pro 5??? Rendering to AC-3 Studio worked, though. But, I’ve had it since Vegas Pro 8.x. Do I need to re-install it again as a “re-fresh” for the Vegas Pro 9.x installation?

    (BTW, I have both Vegas 8.x and 9.0 installed, I just got 9.x and I’m still transitioning from 8.x)

    Also, what is the difference between AC-3 Pro and AC-3 Studio plugins?

    hello

    How to enable ac3 Pro in Vegas:

    copy the “ac3plug” folder from DVD Architect’s “FileIO Plug-Ins” folder and use it to overwrite the one of Vegas in its folder of the same name.

    This is what worked for me. Looking at how long it took me to find s solution for this, I care to share.
