Whats the best way to export and compress a vid file for web use?
I have never had good luck compressing a AVI file for web use. My goal is to have a decent file size (20-50mb for a 5 min file) and supurb quality. For example, see the movie trailer for 300 (https://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer2/medium.html). I know that it’s a quicktime file, but what is the best way to export a movie from Premiere and compress it for web use to acheive reasonable size and great quality.
For example I haven’t been able to come even remotely close to the 300 trailer quality even 4-5x the size of that file. Any ideas?

Premiere Pro doesn’t have the best Quicktime encoding capabilities. I would recommend that you purchase QuickTime Pro from Apple. Then, export your time line as a DVAVI file and compress in the H.264 format via QT Pro.

Side note: if you didn’t acquire your footage in the same matter as 300 or any hollywood budget film, ie..Uncompessed HD or Film, it won’t matter what you attempt with codec’s, you will not meet anywhere near that level of clarity at that size. Also, when you do compress, whether it be from the timeline directly or using a compression suite software or hardware, you need to start start at the highest level. Do not export a compressed file then compress it again for web.
My method is exporting a Master Uncompressed AVI file then using Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 compression suite to push out any format i need at any size and quality I need or want. Yes that AVI file is absolutey huge, but that in the digital realm is your master.
