Yes, I know that this is a topic that has been talked about over and over again throughout this forum. So, I am sincerely apologizing in advance and asking for your patience.

I’m currently using VP8 on my Win 7 laptop. I’m currently working on a short project where I’m pulling some HD .mov clips off particular websites and using them within my project. Until recently, I would use the latest (free) version of MediaCoder (X64 Build 5233) and convert these files to .wmv files, and for the most part, they turned out great. However, now I’m trying to convert a particular 15sec .mov file that I just can’t get to work correctly. The funny thing is, most of the time, the converted files will work fine within my GOM player or WM Player, but once I try to import them into VP8, I either get just the audio stream, or a black (or red) video file.

I’ve read in other posts that Vegas obviously needs to see certain audio codecs and video codecs used together in order for the imported file to ‘play nicely’ with Vegas (thank you Mr. Rofrano). I’ve also read about using GSpot. But, I guess my question is what specs/settings exactly do I need to be looking for when trying to convert these .mov files? What ‘plays nicely’ with VP8? (Let’s focus strictly on the video stream for now, if that makes it easier.)

Another post stated something about using a specific version of QuickTime, but 1.) I don’t have a paid version of that, and 2.) Not sure how that would help anyway.

Sorry for the long post, but as you can tell, I’m a bit of a newb when it comes to video codecs and what works well with what. I’m all up for learning new things, though!

    Thanks again!
