  • What Video Editing Application Should I Use?

Posted by Richard Schwartz on January 27, 2008 at 8:37 pm

I just purchased a Sony HDR-SR8 camcorder, and unknown to me, AVCHD, which I later learned is not supported by most NLEs. I want to edit in HD and produce vacation movies as well as convert old Hi8 tapes. I would like everything to look professional. I am building a computer that’s probably overkill for any editing that I do, but I need some help in selecting an editing application. I know that Vegas can edit in AVCHD and that CineForm will allow an intermediate codec to be used in other applications. I would like an easy-to-use application and it’s not clear what I should buy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I posted this yesterday. Am I in the wrong Thread? Is the question too trivial for the forum?

First of all, you’re limited to an app that can handle AVCHD. As you’ve said, Vegas can. I’m not sure what other ones do, though. As far as “easy to use”, I think Vegas is. However I don’t know if YOU will think Vegas is. There’s lots of tutorials available if you want to look at Vegas.
