  • What tripod to go with Sachtler FSB-8 or 8T Head?

    Hi All,

I plan to buy a FSB-8 or FSB-8T head and am trying to figure out what tripod to get to complete the system.

I am a director on a documentary, not a DP (we have a great one but he owns no equipment and is not a “gear head”).

First off what is the difference between the FSB-8 and the FSB-8T? Preference?

Second, can anyone out there illuminate the differences between the various Sachtler tripods that go with the FSB-8 head?

Weight is not a big issue. Speed and ease of use would be more importatnt. No need to have a power supply in the tripod. Basically “image quality” is the big concern so if one set of sticks will provide less shake that’s what we’re looking for.

    B&H offers:
    0772 FSB-8 Tripod System with DA 75LTripod for 1700
0773 FSB-8 Tripod System with ENG 75/2 DTripod for 1900
0775 FSB-8 Tripod System with Speed Lock 75 Tripod for 2000

    0742 FSB-8T Tripod System with DA 75LTripod for 1900
    0743 FSB-8T Tripod System with ENG 75/2 D Tripod for 2100

What’s the difference between the DA 75, Speed Lock 75 and ENG 75/2D?

    Tradeoffs?

I apologize if it’s obvious but I’m not sure what the tradeoffs are and I figure it’s a big purchase so I’d like to do it right.

Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Jim
