what to do to buy FCP edit suite
I know this has been asked a million times, but here we go. I’m a Media 100 editor using a M100 euite owned by someone else. I’m looking to cut the strings here and want to buy a G5 to edit with. I can’t relly wait until the Intel chip is out and running with no bugs. So I’d like t make the move now. I edit mstly corporate videos, training, PR marketing videos. I shoot on Beta SP and Mini DV, but I’m looking to add a HDV camera to my gear.
What would you suggest I buy for:
G5?
Video Card?
Aja?
Monitors?
External drives?Thanks so much. I really respect your opinions on this Board!

Buy a used last generation G5 which is proven. Pick up a used AJA IO or Kona 2 card.
Buy the rest of the gear used and save lots of money.Or hire a qualified reseller like Bob Zelin to sell you all the stuff, install it and get it up and running for you.

I’ve got about 6K for a G5 Monitors, AJA, Speakers FCP Universal upgrade. I already have the decks.
Which card would be better? IO or Kona 2? Which used Mac G5? 2.3? 2.5? How about G-raid 500 drives? Which monitors?

Pick up the Quad and a Kona 3 so you’ll already have the correct card for the new Intel machines that will be released shortly. If you get a Kona 2 today, you’ll need to upgrade the card when you get a new PCIe machine.
Dell makes nice 24 and 20″ monitors for the computer.
On drives, G-RAID are nice for up to SD 8bit.

Since the guy is primarily working on beta sp and mini dv material he should ease into what suits his needs today and not be concerned about overkilling for tomorrow.
A used last generation G5 and Kona 2 card might be considered more than he even needs now but is a good place to start.
