What to do about audio distortion
I recently finished a wedding video using Premiere Pro. I exported it to tape, which doesn’t reveal the points where the audio is too loud as does the DVD I just burned. At every point that the sound exceeds the normal parameters there is the harsh scratchy sound that indicates distortion from too loud audio. My question is what are my alternatives in this situation, if any? Can I go back through the project in Adobe Premiere and simply lower the volume at those points, then try burning another DVD? Or is there something I can do with the audio processing capabilities of Premiere Pro? Or can I import the sound into Adobe Audition and deal with it there? Or am I simply out of luck. I’d sure appreciate some advice on this.

You can sit and watch the audio mixer master VU meter and lower each clips volume as it peaks into the red. OR right click on each audio clip and choose “audio options” and the Normalize option which might result in a negative suggestion. If you have more than one audio track playing at the same time, even though each track does not peak into the red, the combination or sum of multiple tracks can cause the master VU to peak into the red.

Thanks a lot Mike. I’ll give it a try and see what happens; however, it seems I heard that once the original sound recording is distorted, there isn’t much that can be done later. I’ll let you know what happens.
