  • What size resolution is a DVD PAL? Compressor spitting out 720 x 404 for dvd…

I ask this question, as I thought it was 720 x 576, and everytime I use Apple compressor to convert my 1920 x 1080 Apple pro res movie to a dvd. It spits out a 720 x 404?

DVD studio pro even says 720 x 576i.

I made sure compressor settings for the DVD setting were set to PAL not NTSC.

Any thoughts on how to get a true 720 x 576 output from compressor for DVD?

Where do you get those numbers?
If DVD SP finds the file OK, what is the problem?

Don’t use quicktime player to tell you accurate info on pixel sizes. If you use a PAL DVD preset in Compressor, you can check the settings are 720 x 576 50i in the inspector tab. The Compressor presets are correct and unless you have changed settings, then the pixel aspect will be correct. If you want to import the file in FCP it will properly report the pixel aspect.

While you are in those tabs, enable frame controls and resize to best. Takes a while but it produces the better result
