  • What should i buy? An internal hard or External Hard drive? or does it not matter?

I am in the market for buying more HD space. i am wondering if there is a difference in buying an internal drive or an external drive when operating FCP or AE.

does it matter which i get? i want to get a 300 GB drive to work off of.

also, if internal is preferred, does anyone nkow the specs that i need to look for when buying an internal drive? like SATA or IDE or whatever? i plan on getting one off of newegg.com

    thanks

There are 2 SATA drive bays in your G5. If you only have a system drive now you can easliy install another SATA drive in the second bay.

The best drive for your purpose is in fact available from Newegg at https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144032. Maxline is Maxtor’s enterprise level drive, meaning that it carries a 5-year warranty. These are great drives — I have many of them myself.

I’ve never been a fan of internal storage, especially when you’re only talking 300GB because it’s easier to share storage around when it’s an external drive. If you work with another person or need to take your project to another system, you simply take the hard drive with you.

Also, I can very easily swap off or daisy chain drives to add more storage.

Anything from LaCie, G-Tech or WiebeTech would serve your needs fine.

the reason i asked is because Avid Xpress pro will not work off of an external drive. it has to be internal because of speed limitations or something.

never found taht to be a problem in Final Cut, but wanted to make sure.
