  • What must my settings be to be able to do Fkey shortcuts?

Posted by Noam Osband on May 4, 2010 at 5:02 pm

I want to use shortcuts that involve the F-keys – like insert from the viewer – and I cannot figure out how to set my preferences to do this. I use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000. I looked for an answer to this and couldn’t find it, so sorry if this has been posted already. I assume there is a simple preference setting I should have.

    thanks!

Since you don’t say what DOES happen when you use the F9 key, I assume it envokes the “Expose” features. These need to be disabled in the Apple>System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts.

You need to basically choose between shortcuts for FCP or Finder in general.

For example, I need the FCP shortcuts more than the keyboard volume control, so I set it up so that the Function (fn) button allows me to navigate those keys without interfering with FCP.

How do I make that choice in my preferences?
