  • What is your job title?

As our industry changes rapidly, we are having to come up with new job descriptions to describe what we do. I realize that in it’s purest form, we are “database managers”, but think there is more too it than just that. The job of downloading tapeless digital media and managing it has been described as “media wrangler” in some movie credits I’ve recently seen. In our company, we call that position “media tech”.

What title does everyone else use to describe the person that manages their CatDV system?

    Cat Herder?

[Marvin Holdman] “What title does everyone else use to describe the person that manages their CatDV system?”

    Sweet.

Quite honestly, it’s our Production Assistant who is in effect, our Librarian here at the shop. She has been managing our library database here almost 18 months. Her official title is Production Assistant, but she primarily handles our library.

I have clients hiring “asset managers” these days, at least where they manage archives and libraries.

Assistant editors handle the CatDV in most TV shops, and then the tape librarian/vault manager will get to keep their job for a few more years if they can figure out CatDV. 😉

My only fear in using the term “asset managers” is the inevitable abbreviation.
