    Hi,

I was trying to play with the effects in AE in order to know them better, so far i don’t know what the transition effect is meant for, i first expected it to be like the transition in premiere that you just place betwen two clips in timeline, but it apparently doesnt work the same in AE?

It’s like a filter in Premiere: Drop it into a layer in a composition, then select this layer and press F3 to adjust the % of completion.

Since AE is a compositing app and not really an NLE, I hear of transition effects mostly being used for alternative purposes. For example, setting the venetian blind effect right generates the look of TV scan lines very easily. Or some of them are used on text so that the text has some sort of animation to the way it reveals itself.

Chris and Trish Myers book explaned the simplest use to me, and that is the ability to control your render order when used with other effects. Their example was if you want something to rotate and then cast a drop shadow. Normally After Effects would render the drop shadow first and then rotate the whole thing. With the Transform effect you can control which happens first.

Appoloigies, too early, I read transform when you said transition. Too early in the morning and too late last night
