February 28, 2007 at 3:32 amWhat comes with Vegas is an extremely light version. The full Vegas plugin version has about 20 different film look presets (with many controls for change). These are generally considered to be the best made (by me and others). They are based on programs out of the Orphage, a company founded by a group out of Industrial Light and Magic, which matched video to film for the major motion picture studios. Their process involves a redoing of the frames on a piexel-by-pixel basis that surpasses any of the other film looks in Vegas. They once were very slow. That is no longer true. One, they improved the program and, two, they wrote it to utilize the processor on the Nvidia video boards. It takes about 1.5 times longer to render HDV footage than a straight Cineform avi render. If you see the footage you will know the difference but if you aren’t into a “movie look” or enhancing footage to look different from ordinary video footage, you probably would not be interested. You can see samples at Reg Giant Software.
