    Is it a mistake to buy a new DV camcorder, like the Canon HV30 ?
    I’d buy the HV30 if I know DVs will be around for 5 more years. Thanks.

    If you mean mini-dv tape, yes. you can still buy vhs tapes. flash storage needs to get cheaper to fully replace mini-dv tape. and tape, I think, is still a more secure way of archiving than hard drives. plus all the big companies are still selling cameras that use tape. hv30 is selling for $600. A great deal.

    No. I just bought one, even though I know the format’s days are numbered. My feeling was it’s the best quality right now for a reasonable price and there’s no reason to consider other formats until the bugs have been worked out or p2 becomes more universal.
