  • What is the best way to edit using AVCHD and MiniDV files in the same project?

Posted by Paul Boone on June 22, 2010 at 6:11 pm

I have footage from a canon Vixia HF10 shot in FXP mode, AVCHD 1920×1080, 60i.

I also have footage from a Panasonic GS300 MiniDV SP mode.

    My attempt so far:
I have the AVCHD footage under a file using ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920×1080 60i,

and I load my mini dv footage under ntsc DV panoramic and then I export to quicktime as self contained and export back into my AVCHD file.

    better way?

    Thanks

[Paul Boone] “and I load my mini dv footage under ntsc DV panoramic and then I export to quicktime as self contained and export back into my AVCHD file. “
that makes no sense to me.

Mixing these cameras is tough. Unless you have to stay in HD it would be better to downconvert the HD footage to DV. Blowing up DV to HD is not a pretty or quick thing.

Also you should be using ProRes and not ProRes(HQ) for your HD clips.

    Thanks Michael,

that’s really helpful info. How do you downgrade from HD to DV?

Just curious, why should I use ProRes instead of ProRes (HQ)? Is the (HQ) only for certain formats like RED?
