    Hi

    Iam filming/editing weddings
filming with Sony EX1-R with SDHC Card Adaptor – SDHC SanDick 32GB 45MB/s
    Video Format: HQ 1920X1080 60i or 1280X720 60P
    Computer Imac OS X 10.6.8
transfer to computer through XDCAM Browser
Editing FCP 7 to Compressor 3 to DVD Studio Pro
The weddings are divided into 2 parts, each about 80 min long.

after finish editing I export for example “Part 1” (File – Export – QuickTime Movie)
at the “save” box I do (Setting- Current Setting, “Make movie self contained” is checked)

Then put the exported file into Compressor (DVD Best Quality 90 Min. Mpeg-2 6.2 Mbps 2-Pass)

after that to DVD studio Pro.

When I put the final DVD in the DVD Player, the result on a big flat 42 TV Screen looks worse than my old camera sony PD 170

    is there a better way?

Down convert with hardware, I’m very happy with the results from both my Matrox MXO2 boxes and AJA Ki Pro.

    Or

Down convert to SD before compressing to Mpeg. Doing both down conversion and compression at the same time is too much at once.

Setting frame controls on and resize to best makes a difference. It lengthens encode times but does a much better job with the resize. A two step process with MPEGStreamclip will not be better.

This is such a common question that it was enshrined in the FAQ. Have alook in there as there are some other good tips for HD>SD>DVD
