What is the best way to convert 720P to 1080P meaning what software and workflow yields the best results.

And is this something you would wanna do, or would you regard it as a last resort?

    Thanks

For what purpose? Meaning…what’s your deliverable? I’ve used hardware mainly, using the AJA Kona 3 to cross convert upon output. Works fine. But for software scaling…either Premiere Pro or After Effects do a good job. Compressor if you don’t have those…but they are the better solution.

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for such a quick reply…

The purpose is converting a 720P independent film to 1080P.

Let’s say due to cost 720P is the preferred shooting method.

But if somebody like a festival will accept only 1080P, would these upscales be good enough.

Is stuff like Red Giant Instant HD worth looking into or would Premiere/AF/Compressor do a job good enough?

    Regards

I can’t comment to Instant HD for the purpose of upconverting everything. I did use it for SD clips, getting them to HD. but not 720p to 1080p.

Were you satisfied with the results?

And how did u find the results compare to a Premiere/AF/Compressor conversion?

I was pretty satisfied. But found that PPro and AE were better, so I now use them.

Do they do the same thing/use the same engine or are they different?

    Premiere and AE I mean…

Oddly, In my testing I’ve found PPro to be better. A few AE Artists confirmed that with me. But I don’t know the technical reasons behind that.

Which version of Premiere Pro do you use for conversion? (ex. CS6, CC, etc.)
