What is the best way to conform 23.976 to 59.94?
I am doing the conversion of a 1080p 23.976 cinema advertisement Quicktime Movie to 720p 59.94.
If I just drop it into a 59.94 comp and resize I obviously get some duplicate frames. I assume this is not the professional way. I’m not sure if frame blending would be the proper way to go either.What is the industry standard way to go?

I had contemplated these ideas. I KNOW you are on the right track. Using pulldown to achieve 29.97, then going 59.95. But I’m still worried about the loss of vertical resolution since this will be displayed on the big screen, and may just settle with a frame blended version achieved by simply dropping a 23.976 into a 59.94 comp with frame blending added instead.
It would be nice if After Effects allowed for more rendering option in this area.
Does anyone have any more ideas?Ian.

i am curious what they are using to play out of and what kind of display they are using… 60 frames per second is pretty darn fast and i wonder if that kind of progressive frame rate is necessary.
but, dave, i think your method may be flawed… taking 30i and making it 60p can work surprisingly well.
but, i think, if you take your 24p, convert it to 30i with a pulldown. then take that 30i and try to do the same process as true 30i, but removing the pulldown, you’ll just be creating 24p again. and stretching that into 60p will produce duplicate frames.
