  • What is the best file type to render my film out as?

    Hi THERE!

Okay, so I’ve got a short film, shot mainly on the Panasonic AGDVX100p in 24padvanced. 3 scenes were filmed with the Sony HDRFX1 in 24p also (which were later rendered down to a smaller .avi file to work with the rest of the footage).

When I render it out as an .avi it plays fine in Windows Media Player but when I preview it in DVD Architect it jitters.

I’m hesitant to render it out as an .mpeg because it seems to lag in a particular part of the film that includes a series of quick short cuts. I’ve been slaving over this movie for months now and I just want to finish it but I want to make sure I release it into the world in its proper format.

I am asking you all for assistance.

The jittering .avi file is really throwing me off because I’ve been rendering movies as .avi’s and burning them to DVD with Architect and they’ve always turned out fine, now it’s doing this.

I have trial versions of both Vegas and Architect; I think I’ve got 14 days left on Vegas and 16 on Architect.

    Thanks for all your help.

Despite the jittering of the avi you see in Architect,
Have you actually tried burning a disc first and then see if
it still jitters when playing it back from the DVD?

Yes I did burn a DVD and the jittering is still there.

I rendered out several different projects of different lengths and they all jittered, so it’s nothing to do with the project length. I really don’t understand why all of a sudden .avi’s would stop working. I scanned for viruses and have none…

Evan, Sony has a free whitepaper on their site titled 24p and Panasonic AG-DVX100 and AJ-SDX900 that might be worth reading as it gets into specifics for DVD rendering with this footage.

Thanks Mike I just read the paper and will try what they say. Hopefully it works. I still don’t understand why something that has worked in the past suddenly stopped. That makes no sense to me.

If you guys render out a project in 24p as an .avi and watch in in the preview window in DVD Architect does it jitter?
