What is the best compatibility scenario between FCP and Premiere Pro?
Lately we’ve been having problems going inbetween Macs and PC’s. Standard for us has been, to export from FCP into Compressor, and inside Compressor create an AVI file (720×480, DV/DVCPRO codec, 100% quality, etc.) That Avi (carrying a Quicktime wrapper) would get dumped on a DVD-R, either single or dual layer, since we don’t have any other means of transporting large file sizes that can be read BOTH on Macs and PC’s. We’ll then stick the finished DVD-R in a PC, and drag the AVI onto the PC media drive, and ultimately onto a compatible Premiere Pro timeline. Inside Premiere Pro we would then create streaming WMV files for our web server. Recently, however, weve had a lot of problems being able to drag the avi’s from the DVD-R’ onto the PC media drive. While the PC would allow us to copy/paste the AVI’s, Premiere Pro wouldn’t be able to properly read the files. Since this has been recurring issue, we were wondering if our DVD-R media need to be replaced, or if perhaps we should be creating different files to take from FCP into PP.
What confuses me is, whether or not there another file type we could create in order to have a seamless transition between FCP and PP. Either that, or is there a software out there for Macs that create streaming WMV files? Our wish is that we could eventually create these on our Macs’, bypassing the need for the PC altogether. We do have Flip4Mac, but as far as we know, it can’t do streaming WMV files…so we’re having to take our finished projects to a PC.
Any ideas, suggestions? Thx in advance. 😉
