What is the best codec from Bandicam to make it edit-friendly for Sony Vegas?
Originally one of my videos had terrible quality when rendered from Vegas. It was recorded from Bandicam. I searched a numerous amount of articles on how to render properly but it did not help. However, there was one thing that randomly came up to my mind. I tried to record it in another codec on top of the playing video.
The codec I used originally was XVid. I switched over to Motion-JPEG because an article suggested me to use the format. While the quality was better, it’s troublesome for long videos. One minute of recording on top of my original video is already 1.8 GB alone, compared to only 500 MB on my original 30 min vid! Wouldn’t it be extremely large (whopping 54 GB) if I were to record another 30 min video with Motion-JPEG format?
So now my question is, is there a smaller codec setting I should record in that won’t lose quality when editing on Sony Vegas?
Normally I edit using Windows Movie Maker and the quality is completely fine but I wanted to try some editing features that Movie Maker does not have.

I don’t know what’s going on because 1 minute of MJPEG video with PCM audio should be about 350MB giving you 10.5 GB for 30 minutes or 21 GB per hour.
Have you tried using H.264 or MPEG-4/1 to see how well they edit with Vegas Pro? Those might be alternatives to Xvid.
You could always convert to M-JPEG with AviDemux 2.5 after the fact before editing.

I’m currently using the following settings (https://i.imgur.com/HTx0xUx.png) for Bandicam to record in. I recorded 1 hour and it was 56 GB.
I haven’t tried the other formats but I’ll try it out and see.
If I convert to M-JPEG from another format, will I still keep the same quality?

Well, you have Quality set to 100 and you got what you asked for. Try setting the quality to 75 or even 50 and see the difference in file size.

No, you will loose some quality because you are converting from a lossy format to another lossy format. The questions is, “will your eyes see a difference?”. Try it and see.

Here are the following tests I have done with various codecs:
1) 50% quality M-JPEG: File was much smaller but rendering it was a lot worse.
2) MPEG-4: Render was quite blurry.
3) H-264: Minor blurs (really hard to notice unless I looked carefully). Decent quality.
4) MPEG-1: A lot of colour blurs.
5) I googled up something and found out about how to use XVid External codec (https://www.bandisoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1673) with bandicam. I set the motion precision to 0 and it shows very minor blurs. Graphics was decent.
All my render settings were “1080p Internet – MP4” with CPU only and Best for the project tab.

The big test is how do each of these edit and render in Vegas Pro? Xvid does not edit well in Vegas Pro. It look like H-264 might be a good candidate as long as it edits easily and renders in Vegas Pro without problems.
