  • What is the advantage to making an Iso Image of a project?

What is the advantage of doing this? I want to burn to DVD’s, but is this also a way of making an image of the whole project, and still be able to delete all the project data and be able to burn to DVD at later date, after all project data has been done away with?
I use Adobe Encore as my main authoring program, and was wondering if I can still burn dvd’s with Encore once I tell it to burn an ISO image, or if doing this changes some project data, to where I can’t burn dvd’s.

Making an ISO file in Vegas or DVD Architect is useful if you want to create a master image for disc duplication, or to be able to burn more copies later.

This ISO image is an exact copy of the content of your output DVD – ie your rendered video and any DVD menus and extras. It does NOT contain your project or source media files, so you should back those up separately. Don’t delete the project and source media unless you are never going to do any more on the project and really need the disk space.

So, if I do make an Iso image, and delete all the project files, it’s like deleting project files in the timeline, (it won’t be able to produce more dvd’s because it can’t find the project files?

If you make an ISO image, you only have a copy of the DVD contents. You can burn as many discs as you want from that.

If you delete the project files (“veg” file and source media) then you won’t be able to edit or recreate the project. That’s generally a bad thing, becasue the chances are you’ll want to go back and tweak the video, or render it in a different format (eg for youtube upload), or use some of the media files for a different project.

An .iso can also be used as a virtual disc on a computer. I use them as virtual BluRay discs, play through an HDMI connection to my 52″ HD screen and get excellent presentation through the process in my home.
