  • What is minimum processor spec with Cineform .avi?

Hi. Vegas user here. I have a friend who does not speak good English. He is thinking about purchasing a Canon HF200 (AVCHD). He current edits DV on Adobe Premiere with a Core2Duo at 2.26GHz and 4GB RAM (XP I think). He needs to know if he can edit AVCHD files converted to Cineform .avi with his existing machine, or if he needs to upgrade the processor to a CoreDuo Quad. I can check the Adobe specs, but I thought it might be better to ask the pros who know (that would be you-all).

I understand Premiere also makes use of the GPU. Is there a minimum spec that you all would recommend for converted AVCHD to .avi, both for processor and GPU, that he will be happy with? Also, what if he does not convert to .avi? He is a home user. I just want him to have a good experience.

    Thanks!

With Cineform media, the processor’s job is much easier than AVCHD and the 2.2 Ghz should be fine. However, disc speed becomes more critical as the files are huge…minimum should be a SATA 2 dedicated video drive.

I assume that the cineform product is NeoScene, the minimum processor for that is a 2ghz Core2Duo with 3gigs of ram, Ppro CS3/CS4, I’ve used it on a 2.5ghz Core2Duo,6gigRam laptop with no problems

There is alot of misinfomation about GPU acceleration, Ppro has some limited use of GPU acceleration, there are some effects that use it, for other GPU uses refer to the nvidia plug-in page

Thank you. I passed this information along to him. I am sure he will appreciate it.

I use Cineform NeoScene. However, my friend is a home user. Will other AVCHD to .avi converters work as well as neoScene, so long as they relax the tightly-compacted .mts/.m2ts files to the much larger (and easier to edit) .avi format?

    Thank you.
