I’m talking about the little plus and minus that were in the lower right hand corner of the time line. The ones vertical expansion are still there (increases the heigth of the tracks) but the ones for the time zoom are gone. There does not seem to be a good way zoom in and out on sections of the timeline as there was in V7. This is my first project in V8 and I was really surprized to see them missing. I use them alot. Is this a V8 change or have I done something wrong?

No and I don’t think so.
I just checked and they are on my machine (8.0b).
I just use the mouse wheel for zooming though so, even if they were gone, I wouldn’t miss them.

    Mike,
The help file shows that they should be there but that whole bottom section (drag bar) is not there and is replaced by a black bar. When I click in that black bar strange things happen. Things resize, things move and it seems random.
How do you use the mouse for zooming and unzooming?

Your problem is a very common one. There’s a couple solutions to try:

    1. In Vegas’ preferences, turn OFF “Theme” support
    2. In Windows, reset to the default theme

Yes, turned off theme support in Vegas preferences and problem went away. Thanks. Searched but could not find this solution before.

    Hello Mike,

I’m still getting up to speed myself using Vegas 8.0. Because I have a tendency to have wrist problems such as carpal, etc., I use a joystick mouse from 3M called the Rennaisance Mouse which has been wonderful for me. I have used this truly ergonomic mouse now for about 7 years and it literally saved my career. The only downside is that the mouse does not come with a “wheel” it merely has a third button which is good for scrolling but will not work in Vegas with zoom in or out command.

Clicking on that little + or – is a huge pain for me and I want to setup a shortcut key like PPRO just using the + or – keystrokes for zooming in or out. I would be open to other single keystroke options if possible. I tried to map the keyboard for a zoom in or out command but could not find that specific command.

    Other quick Vegas????

How in the heck do you turn off the safe title generator in the video preview window? I can adjust the size but I can’t turn it off an on. Anyway to output the safe generator to an external monitor?

Any idea how to add Media Manager tags to subclips. This has been a bummer for me so far because I have hundreds of video clips that are 30 minutes long and I’m afraid a single tag option is going to get the job done. I want to be able to Media Manager tag dozens of portions of each 30 minute clip but no luck.

Thanks very much as I continue to tweak a new workflow for editing.

Erik, as someone who has suffered from episodes of Carpal tunnel in the past (fixed by altering seating position and desk height), I know what you’re going through.
The only thing I could find out about your mouse (3M EM500) was a tip for using the scroll feature:
The scroll function is triggered simply by squeezing the stalk mounted button and then moving the mouse in the direction you wish to scroll, the further you move the mouse the faster the scroll. It is great for reading on-screen text.
I’m not sure if this would work or not though 🙁
I’d contact the manufacturer and see if there’s a way to enable this feature.

To turn off the Safe area display, click the crosshatch symbol (looks like the # symbol) above the Preview window. There’s a dropdown box next to it that gives you other options in addition to the safe are markings.

I don’t use Media Manager but, as I recall from reading posts about it, it doesn’t work with subclips as they are virtual clips, not real ones.
I believe that the only solution was to render out the subclip as a new AVI file. Then you can tag it as it’s now a real clip.
You’re not making any changes so the render should go quickly.

Awesome that you could correct with ergo adjustments only. For me the minute my hand touches anything close to regular mouse the tinge of pain begins.

So, I take it there is no way to keyboard shortcut the zoom in or out?

When I click the # symbol my choices are only grid, safe or some color choices. These do not operate as toggles in my case but selections which means I don’t have a choice that is just nothing.

Thanks for the simple but probably effective tip of rendering out subclips. I don’t know if my drives can handle duplicating the media (which is essentially what I would be doing) but I will keep the tip in mind.

    Erik

Oops, ok, I see. You actually click on the # to get safe title to toggle. Missed that one. Thanks again.
