    Hello All!

I am trying to get my independent producer thing going. I bought a new iMac i7 which I am returning because it is too slow. All my software & experience is Mac OS.

Question: What kind of hardware am I looking at to use AE & FCP in a timely, professional manner?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

Lots of RAM, multiple fast processor cores, and multiple fast local hard disks. For After Effects, don’t fret about spending a lot of money on a snazzy video card. Focus your resources on RAM, processors, and hard disks.

Todd’s not kidding. After Effects will use every resource you can throw at it. But, if you can get an Early 2008 Mac Pro or newer with as much ram as you can afford, you’ll be able to get some honest work done in FCS and Creative Suite. Do not get an older 1,1 or 2,1 Mac Pro, as they have hardware limitations you need to avoid (32-bit bios, no PCIe 2.0).
