June 16, 2011 at 6:33 am[Mark Suszko] “Actually, it needs some kind of animated button for a zero-frame trim, so you can *look* like you made a change but didn’t.”
Oh, that brings back some memories.
Back in the tape days when only the editors knew how to run the CMX and the Grass and had to operate it for everyone else, at least once a week there was some producer that wanted to trim ‘a frame’ off of something 5 edits back, that wasn’t bothering anybody else and looked fine. Of course it always had to be on some tape that color framed so poorly you were using 20 second preroll, and lucky to get a lock. It was SOP to just do a preview, and ask them how they liked the ‘new edit’. Know one ever caught on, because it was about their ego, not making the shot better. None of them were good enough to see a frame difference, or questioned why we didn’t have to ripple the rest of the shots.
These were usually the same jerks that would come unglued for wasting time if you stopped to fix a flash frame. And that usually went something like this:
*hitting all stop, and scrolling back the EDL*
“What are you doing?”
“I just spotted a flash frame”
“I didn’t see anything.”
“I thought you had ‘one frame eyes’? You can’t see that?”
*jogging back the record deck*
“I don’t see shit”
*deck now stopped on one obvious frame left after a replacement*
“This is left after replacing that shot, how could you miss it?”

https://www.sstdigitalmedia.comI have a system, it has stuff in it, and stuff hooked to it. I have a camera, it can record stuff. I read the manuals, and know how to use this stuff and lots of other stuff too.

June 16, 2011 at 8:33 amHaha, this is great 🙂 It needs a ‘sparkle more’ button to. And a button to go from “I don’t feel it” to “I feel it now”.

June 16, 2011 at 9:44 am[Richard Herd] “You know this is true!”
I remember back in the day some producer reffered to the editing department as “tape chimps”, as though we were the “button pushers” to their creative genius.
I guess I’d like a “media chimp” button for all the moments I can’t find a shot, or clip orsequence, or piece of music or graphic or where the current autosave vault is.
Just hit the chimp icon and it intuitively seeks out what you can’t pinpoint and finds it for you.
This just made me think that the NEW FCP-X will have a constant save database instead of an autosave vault.

June 16, 2011 at 2:38 pmI would suggest star wipes but I think that’s there already 🙂

June 16, 2011 at 7:16 pmWhat are you talking about. the Star wipe is the only transition in FCP X. Why have hamburger when you can have steak right.
Now Star wipe to the next topic*

June 16, 2011 at 10:22 pmI actually used a star wipe on a cable network show once just to prove I could do it. FCPX needs a feature that lets you send a message back in time to tell the camera man what he’s not doing right.

June 16, 2011 at 10:26 pmI’ll miss discovering that the autosave vault contains 100 gigs worth of old project autosaves and it’s the reason why there’s no room left on your startup drive.

June 17, 2011 at 10:55 amIt’s an old joke, but they say a camel is a horse designed by a committee. So you convince your client that your final cut is a masterpiece who then goes back, hot-foot, to the committee. They say they love it, but could you just work for another unbudgeted three hours, put in some shots not in the contract and change the music which we all agreed as first choice before you shot a frame. Maybe it should have a ‘Yes, but………..’ or a ‘Could you just………’ button. How we love our corporate clients.
