what effect?
Hello,
I’m trying to figure out the effects used in the following videos:

– 3:12 is it actually a flare or some an effect added?https://vimeo.com/77127939 at:
– 00:25: there’s a cross fade but the clips seems to brighten up too?
– 00:35: is it a flare coming through from below? or an effect?thanks in advance for any reply

Thanks for getting back.
Well, I have some light leaks installed but in the above instances – especially the first one – it seems to me to be a bit different: light leaks normally come in a bit randomly from all sort of directions. Here they seem more directionally applied. Also, they are normally used to transition to another shot while in the first case the shot stays the same? I know they don’t look too complicated but if there’s any tutorial someone could direct me to, I’d really appreciate it.

Damaged film? Like the plugin Genarts makes?

No speciality needed.
Make a luminance mask of your liking in photoshop and overlay.
Experiment a bit with timeing and opacity.
Use blend mode to tune to your preference.
Knowing how grey scale masks can interact with layers is an essential basic skill.
