    Hi all,

Just putting together a new rig to run PPro. Will be editing mainly Uncompressed 10-Bit Standard Def with the occasional mix of HD. Footage is mainly music video so max duration of about 5 mins and I’ll be using a Decklink card that I already own for capturing and layback to tape.

    Coolermaster Elite 330 Case £27.93
    Corsair 450HX PSU £52.20
    Sony AD-7240 Optical Drive £16.55
    Vista 64 Business £112.15
    Gigabyte GA-MA785GT Motherboard £75.21
    80GB Intel SSD X25-M £166.74
    4 x Hitachi 250GB Deskstar as RAID0 Scratch Disk £115
AMD Phenom II 955 CPU £136.84
    6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-10666 7-7-7-20 RAM £109.24

    Total £823.55

    Many Thanks,

    Ray

First the case. It’s probably going to be one of the noisier versions from Cooler master. My favorite case from them is hands down the Cosmos 1000. It’s huge, heavy, built out of steel, but it has a ton of room and is very quiet, something important if you edit in the same room.

You might find that SSD to be a bit small. We’ve been using a couple of 128 gigs GSkill Falcon and couldn’t be happier with the performance and stability. It’s MLC, but holding its own after about a year, and it’s pretty cheap (comparatively speaking). Even with just program files and OS, we are about 3/4 to capacity.

You’ll probably need one more large drive for daily backups.

I won’t comment on AMD since we don’t own one. We love the Intel i7, but it’s certainly expensive and it’s very hot, especially if you are editing in the same room.

I will tell you that our systems are very stable on it, so I would ask around for performance on that particular AMD chip.

Many thanks for your reply. I’m pleased to hear you recommending the SSDs, I’m particularly excited about trying them out. The reason I chose only 80GB was that this will purely be used for OS, PPro and nothing else. No Photoshop, Documents or any other apps. I thought 80 would suffice?

Would you think I’d be better off with the 4×250 SATAs or 2xSingle Platter Samsung F3 500GBs?

    Thanks again
