WHAT do I RENDER as if I want to BURN to a DVD?
I have my video in Vegas. Up until now, I’ve been rendering as .avi-Pal DV-“good” render quality… then I have been using Nero to burn this avi file as a DVD with their “make DVD-video” option.
I was just wondering, is .avi-Pal DV-“good” quality the best one to use if I want to burn as a DVD?

why not render straight to mpeg2 in vegas?
just curious. unless, of course, you need to rededit /rerender the video later…..

hmm…so mpeg 2 then? i can still do the same thing with nero, right?
why is mpeg 2 better? in what ways?

oh, & also, what template under mpeg-2?

Ok, so here are my new questions:
a) under mpeg-2, do i render in the “DVD PAL” template?
b) good, or best? i heard best is hardly better than good, except for stills or something…
c) output type: DVD or Mpeg-2?
d) aspect ratio: 4:3 or 16:9 ? -

Bottom line: DVD = MPEG2. The way you’re doing it now, you’re allowing Nero to converto to MPEG2 for you (which is fine if you don’t know what bitrate you need). Do you also have DVD Architect?

Yes, it depends on how you’re going to author the DVD and burn it. Personally I never cared much for Nero. I use 2 for authoring, DVDA-2 and DVD lab pro. If I’m going to use DVDA, then I render MPEG2 using the custom for DVDA. If I’m rendering for DVD Lab Pro, then I use MPEG 2 and create my M2V files.
Never just use the default. Check out jeditdv’s tips-and-tricks newsletter in the post above. It’s a wealth of great help and information. I wouldn’t be do Vegas if it hadn’t been for Ed and some of the others here.
