  • What causes event fade-out/in to disappear when snapping

Posted by Andrew Lenczycki on June 24, 2011 at 2:49 pm

I have noticed this sporadically in Vegas Pro 8, 9, & 10. I have event snapping turned on so that as I place pictures onto a track, they snap to each other (right end of pic 1 is snapped to by left side of pic 2, etc.). I frequently will have 15-30 frame fade-out on right side of pic 1, a 15-30 frame fade-in on pic 2 (as opposed to overlapping the pictures to create an overlapping transition). Now if I move pic 2 away from pic 1 then back to it (snapping into place), the fade-out of pic 1 and the fade-in of pic 2 go away and a little flag comes up at the transition interface reading “0.00”. I’m not at my home computer (with Vegas installed) right now, so I can’t put up a screen shot.

This doesn’t happen with all the pictures on the track when moved, only a few. It seems like a very random thing, but the only way I can get the fade-out & fade-in’s to “come back” onto pic 1 & 2 is by putting at least one frame of space between the two pictures (i.e. if they “snap” back to each other, their respective fade-out/in will disappear). This is not a big deal, just something that I run into from time to time and it’s driving me crazy to not know what I’m doing to cause it.

Thanks for posting this one Andrew.

Ditto, I have this happen too with Vegas Pro 10.
Also, note that on audio tracks, sometimes it’s nearly impossible to add fades in or out after the snap as the little triangle at the top of the track clip heads or tails becomes hidden.

I can work around this for either the video track or audio track by adding another track and moving one or the other clips there. This isolates the track and allows for fade action access and stability.

Sorry I don’t have any answers, I just wanted to pipe in and let you know that you are not alone.

No answers here either but you are not alone. I just went through this the other day with a bunch of clips. It’s rather maddening. Ghost in the machine I suppose. 😉

Seen this many times. I just figured it had something to do with quantization.

To solve, I just expanded/stretched the timeline and dragged the edge of one of the clips back and forth and the issue disappeared.

    HTH,

    Cheers for now,
