What are Waveform Render Files?

May 11, 2011 at 4:09 pmIt’s more a cache than a render file.
When you enable waveforms in your timeline, that information gets written to a file. You will find them in the FCP Docs folder in their own folder marked “Waveform Cache Files”

May 11, 2011 at 4:14 pmThe computer renders the image of the waveform once and stores it, as a way to reduce processing overhead, by not having to constantly re-draw the waveform for you in real time, just so you can see it scrolling along with your video timeline. These waveform visual image files can take up a lot of space over time. If you trash them, the computer will just rebuild them fresh.
