What are the P2 archive solutions that reatin all MXF metadata?
What are the P2 archive solutions that reatin all MXF?
In particular I’m interested in the BlueRay. Does this archive system retain all MXF metadata? So as a workflow question if one were to archive all desired clips from a particular project to Blue Ray, wipe clean the NLE edit drives and then come back to the project…Would one simply need to re-import the clips from the archived BlueRay disk back onto the NLE edit drives? I guess it begs the question. In current tape based FCP you can make the media that you’ve digitized offline from within the project and then re-batch capture from each tape. The media automatically reconnects to the timelines and at most you have to rerender. So how does this work if you’re in the P2 world? I understand that current workflow with current FCPHD still converts the MXF into QT files and imports them into your bins in your project. So is there a make media offline process or are you deleting the files from your bin all together? Additionally Is there any hope of a new update of FCPHD that will work natively with the P2 MXF file? Any chance that’s by NAB or sooner?
Back to the archiving solutions. Can we make a master list of the options and deliniate what is P2 MXF smart and what isn’t?
Here’s what I have heard are the archive solutions:
1.) LTO
2.) DLT
3.) Holographic – (NA)
4.) Hard Drive
5.) Blue Ray
6.) DVD
7.) Capture TapeWhich keep the native MXF & metadata the cameras produce and that makes P2 so attractive?
