  • What are good printers on the market now to print on DVDs

Posted by Margie Marfi on July 28, 2005 at 6:38 pm

    Hi,

From what I’ve read in past posts from about a year ago I understand not to put labels onto DVDs. Printing on DVDs with an appropriate printer is the way to go .. from what I understood. Does anyone know what’s a good printer that is out on the shelf now?

    Thanks,
    Margie

I’m using an epson 960. That one’s no longer made but the R200 and R300 took its place. I’ve also used a Signature III dedicated printer with an auto feeder. If you have a BUNCH to print, something like that is a reasonable option. I like the look from the Epson better, though. There’s also some thermal printers available.

    Hi,

Thank you. I was trying to find yours. Didn’t know if there was something better out now. I wanted to do something better than scribble on the dvd with black marker!!:( It’s just so UN-classy. With the help of Vegas and your software my montages have been knocking the socks off of friends and family and it’s a bummer to have only my scribble on the dvd! Rendering time is about an overnighter w Vegas 5. Still haven’t installed V6.

have been using Canon i965 and very happy – newer models out (i990 etc), of course, but this will do the trick and more. Photo rendition is pretty amazing too

    single inks x 6

pictbridge compatible, 4×6 feeder, A4 full colour in less than a minute, blah blah blah

I’ve been using the Epson R200 with very good results. You should be able to get it for under $100.
The included software is simple but does a good job and the printer couldn’t be easier to use. Perfect alignment and excellent quality. I’m printing on Ritek RiData printable DVD-Rs.

    Hello Margie,

I have just purchased an Epson R1800 printer for the same reason. I decided to spend a little more and get great quality. So far I’m pleased with it. Check it out at B&H Photo in New York City. I do business with them all the time.
    Best of luck!

Thank all of you for your help!:) I don’t know where to post my thanks to all of you so I did it to my post. I printed out all of your responses that you gave and will price compare to see what I can get for my dollar. Had to get to work yesterday and couldn’t respond anymore during the day. A week ago got a spindle of DVDs from Best Buy and some lables from Memorex that now need to be returned. I am grateful that this site is here! Thank you!

    Best to all of you,

    Margie

    Hi Margie,

Just wondering which printer you decided to go with? I printed a bride & groom onto the cd I recordered with their nemaes & date on it. It came out great. I showed some friends what it looks like on a white label and then I showed them what it looks like on a printable CD and they loved it. I’m using the Epson R1800. Check it out.
    Have a great weekend.

    Hi Ralph,

I wanted the R1800 but my pocket book right now is in line with the R200. My desk is a joke. I have an HP DeskJet 722C for printing emails and everyday stuff. An Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX that I got a couple of years ago to print photos and now go to a photo kiosk to print photos cheaper .. I think than I can unless I want something bigger or fancy ie makeover in Photoshop. Then my ink dries out! Now I have the R200 to print on the CDs and DVDs. What a mess. Just installed the printer. Best Buy had one left on close out for $79 but not many printable CDs and no printable DVDs. I had to go to Sams Club to get a 100 spindle of each CDs Verbatum were a little over $22 and DVDs were a little over $41. Sams also had many of the R200 for $79.??. There was a parking spot right in front of the front door of Best Buy on a friday night (figured that was a good sign). The R200 had NO USB CABLE in the box!! So had to steal from the other Epson. Still have yet to try it.

    Best Regards,
    Margie
