April 2, 2005 at 1:52 pmHi Noah, Luis, and Graeme,
Sorry I got a little busy there on Thursday and Friday and have not chimed in before now. I am really thrilled that you guys are heading up this forum, that is great!!
I hope you all are coming to NAB, I know Noah is, but Luis and Graeme, please stop by the booth and say hello in person. More than likely I will be around the HVX200 which will be in the camera area.
Thanks so much for the willingness to be leaders in this forum and helping people understand the P2 paradigm. Tape is easy, we have been doing it for years, but how do we move to the idea of content as data. It has been a real learning curve for me these past couple of months and once we get past NAB and we can talk more specifically about this camera, it will be even more fun.
Best regards,
Jan

April 2, 2005 at 1:58 pmJan – very much looking forwards to meeting you, and the camera at NAB. Thanks for welcoming us to the forum, and thanks for being around to answer our questions, and as you say, talk about the details of the camera itself as soon as we get the official launch at NAB.
I’m quite a firm believer that solid state tapeless diskless aquisition is the way to go. I know people have questions about price and workflow, and I still find myself a little unsure at times as to how things will work, but it does seem that P2 is a very much ahead of it’s time technology that the industry as a whole is going to have to catch up to.

We may not all be certain about all things at all times, but we can at least rally around the fact that we no longer want to use tape.
Tape may be easy, until you get a head clog in your deck like I did last week, then it’s just a pain.
Unfortunately I won’t be at NAB this year, but I look forward to living vicariously through Noah and Graeme. I hope we’ll get a chance to meet at another event sometime soon.
You know, seeing as I can’t be there this year, maybe you could just send one of those HVX200s over here, for evaluation puposes of course.

April 2, 2005 at 8:02 pmDon’t worry Luis, we’ll report back all our findings. Throughout the history of NLEs, capturing video has always been the biggest pain, be it the expense of a deck, dropped frames or audio sync issues. I’ll be glad to see that pain gone!
I know we’re all uncertain on the workflow, but we’ll figure it out, other products will come out that will help etc. Personally, I’m finding this ever so exciting.
