    Nothing real deal breaking, just wondering if anyone has seen this. Also, this is an old project so craziness will ensue as so much has changed since now and then.

    I am restoring an old project from ‘eons’ ago, originally edited on FCP 5.1.2. It has many many hours of footage on both tape and P2.

    What’s weird is that when playing back the p2 footage in quicktime after log and transfer, the aspect ratio is all screwed up. It plays back normal in FCP. The footage was shot dv50 anamorphic. In Quicktime it plays back at 1024×480. Totally crazy.

    Also, when capturing from tape, most of the clips have two channels of audio. For some reason when you open clips in QT and look at the properties they have 16 channels of audio, but when going back to FCP it only has the two that were supposed to be captured. I tried to get cute and over ride the logged clips settings, but then there’s a problem with reconnecting the media so I just kept it at default. Everything is working, but it’s odd behavior.

    Weird.

    As for the 16CH of audio, isn’t that the spec for HD? So even if you only send audio to ch 1&2 you still get 3-16 to boot.

    I’ve always noticed the anamorphic problem in QT even back in Tiger. I’d open an anamorphic QT in QT and it would be 4×3 squeezed. FCP would display properly. Only work around in QT is the hold the shift key and drag the bottom right corner to the proper aspect ratio.

    WEll, here’s the rub. Yes, it is and the KOna allows for capturing 16 channels. BUT in FCP before capturing, only two are logged and supposedly two are captured. When you look at the files in FCP they only have two attached to the movies. It has to be because this project is so old and so many OSs and driver versions ago.

    Right, because that’s what anamorphic is 4×3 squeezed. What I am seeing is the opposite of 4×3 squeezed.

    I don’t know. Everything seems to be working on the FCP side, just not the QT side. I will be able to restore this project.

    don’t know about the audio channels…

    as for QT display: when you open the property window in QT (apple-j) and select the video track and then the visual settings > you see the exact size of the clip and what size it is displayed at.
    As far as I know is that if QT knows the clip is anamorphic it adjusts the display size (not changing the actual size but just displaying it differently) to show it to you in the correct aspect ratio.

    You can even change the display size to what ever you want. It never affects the actual size but just the way it’ll open in QT. Be sure to save the changes (if you make some) for QT to see them the next time you open the file. FCP is not affected by the display size of QT.

    Yeah, I understand how it all works, but do you have any reason for quicktime to do this after a log and transfer?

    Only reason could be that FCP in the transfer sets those parameters automatically for P2 material?

    But I don’t really know 🙂

    See, but this is where it gets weird. In FCP it’s fine. In Leopard QT it’s not. There’s some other weirdness happening with this project. Chalking it up to old.
