    Hello,

I run PP 2.0. Once a project has been open for a while, my ability to playback native unaltered (as to not require rendering) AVIs stops. The video freezes, but the audio continues. Oddly enough, if I alter the AVI in any way (as to require rendering), the video plays back fine.

My machine is PLENTY fast enough to playback SD (even HD) no problem, but here are the specs anyway.

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2CPU
    6600 @ 2.40GHz
    2.40GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM

I use the Nvidia Quadra FX1500 video card.

I have already tried the following:
    reinstalling Premiere 2.0
    updating the bios
    updating the CPU
    updating the video card driver

I am at a complete loss here. This shouldn’t be happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is puzzling. Here are a few more Some troubleshooting tips.

    New to add.

I just noticed this too. If I play a native AVI in the “source” window, it plays back fine. It’s when I play a native AVI on the timeline, that I get the freezing issue in the “Program” window, which also translates to whatever’s on my external preview monitor.

    FOUND THE PROBLEM!

For some strange reason, Premiere doesn’t like the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 card that I had in my system. I added the card a while back. Probably around the same time I started having problems. I just never realized the connection. I even tried updating the driver on the card, but it didn’t matter. So I just yanked it out all together and am temporarily taking sound out of my motherboard (until I find a better solution). I wonder if anyone else has had that problem with that card.

That suprises me. I have used the Audigy 2 and the Audigy 4 with all versions of PPro and have never experienced the problems you describe.

Perhaps it is some conflict between the Audigy and other hardware you have?

    At least you’ve found a solution. 🙂

    Cheers
