Weird DVD problem
Three months ago I produced a safety video for a client. I gave them 6 DVD-R (DVD-5) copies burned on Beall brand media, using a Pioneer 106, and DVD Architect. I played all of them on both set top player and computer before giving them to the client. The client also played all of them on both set top and computer with no problems.
The client plays the DVD continuously 8 hours a day on a combo Magnavox 26″ LCD HDTV Monitor with DVD Player (26MD255V). Each DVD would last about 2 to 3 weeks before it would stop playing. I see no visible scratches or dirt, and have cleaned them with a Maxell cleaning kit, but none of them will play for me now either.
Any experience or ideas about the cause of this? Thanks.

That remembers me the “forgeting effect”.
The media is forgeting:
1. you write to it over the max speed it supports
2. your writers laser is getting old and power of it
reduces, thus the writing is not perfect
3. the media is defect in materialTry writing far below specified max speed.
(Let’s say 4X instead 16X)Try different brand.

I burn at 2x. I use printable white face DVD’s and print directly on face with Epson printer. I don’t cover the face with alot of pictures, just text & logos here and there.
Could the combo player be baking the DVD with heat?

Perhaps, I’d create 3 copies to the same brand media,
one into the baking player, another on top of it
(gets some heat too), and a 3rd one to be stored
in a cooler normal place.
And see, when the played one is gone, what’s
about the others.By(t)e
