  • Way to change Encore to 720 x 540?

Posted by Brad Beamer on November 14, 2006 at 9:30 pm

    Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to import files at 720 x 540 into Adobe Encore.

I’m creating a a flash presentation for TV on DVD, and don’t want the pictures to look stretched.

Because TV uses rectangular pixels and computers use square pixels, 720 x 480 on a computer does not exactly match the 720 x 480 on a TV. I’ve found that 720 x 540 works perfectly.

I would like to export my 720 x 540 Flash presentation into Encore to create a DVD with menus.

I know I can change the presentation to 720 x 480, but the pictures look slightly stretched. Is there a way to export in 720 x 540? Otherwise is there another program that will?

    Thanks

First, you’ll have to export from Flash as something other than .flv. Avi, .m2v, .mpg, .wmv and .mov are acceptable for import into Encore.

But if Flash won’t let you export in rectangular pixels, then that won’t matter. You will need to import your Flash video into another program like After Effects so that you can export 720×480 0.9 PAR.

With 720×540, you will have to scale the video in AE to 89.9%. If you use a 648×480 square pixel Flash project, then when you drop it into your 720×480 0.9 PAR AE comp, it will be scaled automatically and correctly. Then export to .avi or mpeg from AE for use in Encore.
