Watching captured videos in quicktime
Hi
I captured some 1080i footage on FCP, and I can edit and view it fine in FCP, but, when I go into the capture scratch and try to play it on Quicktime, the screen is black and only the audio plays. I remember getting a message saying I needed to download something for it to work, but none of them worked. The odd thing is, I can play HD 1080i/p videos that I download, such as the RED Reel on RED’s website…so it does not make sense.

You’re only telling us part of the story. 1080p tells us just the pixel dimension and that it’s progressive, but it doesn’t give us clue what codec you’re talking about or how you captured it, nor do mention what version of FCP or Quicktime you’re using.

FCP 5.0.4–but it plays fine there
QT–7.6.4
I captured the footage using my Sony HVR-A1u (it was also shot on that), just straight through with a firewire…nothing fancy. My capture setting was HDV, my sequence setting was HDV 1080i60. I think the problem is within Quicktime, not FCP.

I agree. I suspect that the latest Quicktime may have an issue running with the now five year old version of FCP.

What version of Mac OS are you running? If you are running on Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6), are you using Quicktime Player X or Quicktime 7?

I updated to FCP 6, and now they play in QT.
