    Charlie,

I apologize for the pilot error comment, and additionally, I tried it out and cross dissolves do work before and after a gap. On the other hand, I have FCP 5, Tiger, Blackmagic card, and drivers, yet the cross dissolve is working on my system. Hope you figure out you problem.

it’s not a consistent problem. like i said, it worked, then after an ETT, it stopped. it may also be particular to working in 8 and 10 bit uncomrpessed timlimes. there’s so many variables, trying it once doesn’t prove system stability.

    Charlie,

I just tested on an 8-bit uncompressed timeline, so you can probably rule that one out…

.. . . . . . yes, i’m working in 8 bit. like i said, it worked, then it stopped working after ETT. after it stopped working the only way to get a dissolve to work was to force the “Full” RT effect to render. this is not a consistant problem. that’s what’s bugging the f*** out of me. there’s nothing i can specifically point to that I’ve done or the machine has done that’s causing this. i’ve had problem earlier this week with dissolves and Text3D.

i can do a dissolve right now in my timeline and it works. but i could turn around tomorrow and find it glitches.

Was the project upgraded from FCP 4.5 ? I did encounter similar issues when updating medium to big projects from a previous version.

[CharlieX] “I had a piece of media, with a dissolve to black (empty on the timeline). A 2 second gap and then a fade up. Cross dissolve isn’t working, it’s just popping on and off. I’ve removed the dissolve, I’ve trimmed the frames a little, I put new dissolves on it, it just won’t work.”

Cross dissolves are working just fine here fading to an empty gap in the timeline. DVCPro HD, 720 8bit, SD 8bit, SD 10bit. Been editing straight through for about 3 weeks now and I would have noticed this one right away if it popped up.

Running 5.0.2 with Kona 2 and Tiger 10.4.2.
