  • Warning – FCP 4.5 will not re-install in Tiger

A couple days ago we upgraded our OS to Tiger, using the upgrade method. FCP 4.5 seemed to work fine at first, but quickly I realized I was becoming plagued with unexpected quits and freezes (including the multi-lingual prompt for restart).

Our FCP Suite 5.0 is on backorder, so I wanted to try to get things back in working order at least for the time being.

Well… I did a CLEAN INSTALL of Tiger on my Dual 2ghz G5. That went smoothly.

Then I tried installing from the Final Cut Pro 4.5 disc… partway through, I get the error “There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again”. I went to remove the partially installed files as indicated by Apple’s Online Tech Doc and proceeded to try it again twice more. Same error.

So in order for me to get anything done at this point, I’ll have to revert to Panther in order even be able to install and use FCP 4.5…. Hopefully version 5 will arrive soon.

i had no issues installing FCP4.5 on Tiger.

    1-Cloned drive,
    2-Erase and install Tiger.
    3-installed FCP 4.0 (etc), then 4.5.
4-migrated my settings etc (not apps) back from the clone.

maybe 3+4 were the other way?
