Warner brothers type opening
How would I go about doing a 3d logo (zaxwerx) with it doing a displacement in the clouds (not concerned about doing the 3d logo, just the displacement cloud effect? any tips? easy?

To be honest it sounds like you’re already there, but for one short step.
You need to apply the Displacement Map filter to a layer which is already FX ready. In other (and slightly clearer) words, AE renders out displacement mapping, before applied FX. So you need to take your composition with Zaxwerks in it and nest it into a second comp, then you can use it as your displacement map.
