  • Want to convert HD sequence/QT file to web-friendly version

I know this is a well-worn topic, but i’m in a bit of a hurry and i can’t find anything specific to what i’m doing.

I have a sequence shot with EX-1 that’s HD. I down-converted, via first FCP then Comp, to 4:3 WS for broadcast on cable channel. I now want to go to web with this, for posting on YTube/Facebook/website. Is this done with the QT file i made in FCP(43GB, 1440×1080, 32:00) or do i re-export in FCP to a different format and then bring in to Compressor as i did with NTSC version or do i re-export in FCP in to a web-friendly version and leave it at that?

I read here that some people use the Elgato (?) program for web conversion instead of Compressor…that a good idea? Where would Elgato fit in the sequence of conversion?

    thanks again

That what Compressor is for. Export a QT Movie from FCP and drop that into Compressor. Choose from many of the presets.

I’m trying the “streaming” QT 7 setting at 800kbs.

Where can i “tell” the compressor engine that it’s a WS 4:3 movie i’m rendering?
