    Hi Guys

I have a training project that i am producing in the next few months. I have finally made the decision to switch from PC to Mac and am looking at the latest MBpro and FCP to edit with.

I will be shooting 3 Sony HDV 1080i Cameras, upto 6 hours on each camera.

I would like to be able to do 3 streams of HDV without skipping or dropping frames if possible, and at times, lay lower thirds over the top or do a picture in picture.

Firstly, am i dreaming to expect a new MBP to do this out of the box? I have read that i should be looking at an AJA Io HD. They are quite expensive. Does an earlier model have the capabilities that i need or will i need this model? I will definately need a Raid setup and have been pointed in the direction of “SeriTek/2ENSM2-E bundle”. Is this the model to go for?

The training production i’m shooting, won’t be fancy, so i just need reliabilty, rather than bells and whistles. Its my first Mac job and don’t want it to be my last.

Thanks for any comments and posts.
    Chris

or just to throw a spanner in the works, for the cost of an Aja Io, should i invest that money and buy a Mac Pro instead with a BlackMagic card?

    Cheers
    Chris

If you don’t HAVE to be portable, I would go with a Mac Pro system. You options for I/O and storage are far greater. I use a MBPro system and while it hasn’t let me down so far, I would feel better doing larger multicam HD projects on a Mac Pro with a nice RAID attached. Unfortunately, I have to be mobile.
