I sure hope there is some setting I’m overlooking in VP 17 that makes it crash so easily.
I’ve had so many crashes due to so many reasons …moving around in 4K projects, mixing .mov with mp4 or even just adding text to a 1080P timeline!
I just rebuilt that same 1080P project in VP 12 and had zero issues.
What the heck could be causing these crashes in VP 17…apparently not my system as VP 12 does fine.
In case you’re wondering why I upgraded it’s because someone here told me upgrading would resolve my issue regarding VP 12 not recognizing certain mp4s but VP 17 will crash when trying to add text to a simple 1080P timeline?
    Surely there’s a setting I have in VP 12 that I don’t have in VP17…or something!

Great question. I’ve been with the software since 10 I believe. You might try some of the settings under preferences -> general (tab). I cannot seem to find the setting… maybe they removed it in the last version? I used to have it set there so it doesn’t pull the program from memory on a task switch. I have a masters in computer engineering (granted that was 13 years ago bit rusty)… However, I am guessing it crashes partly due to task switching in the OS. I think, some of the different panes in the software maybe run in different tasks on the OS / timeslices on the processor… Especially when you switch out of the program to something else, it tends to crash. It could be due to it pulling Vegas out of the memory and onto the hard drive or elsewhere to free up memory space. This software is quite complex and fickle. It’s annoying. Probably I didn’t help out at all…

Also try to adjust the render threads and dyanmic ram under Video pane of preferences.

Thanks, I did see that my gpu did have an update…unfortunately I think it was just to accommodate a new game (I’m not a gamer but hope it helps with VP17)
