I’m doing my first TV commercial and don’t have a ton of experience recording voice. Are there some things that I can do to the vocal recordings to make them better sounding for TV material?

and by the way, what is the correct way to refer to the vocal in a tv commercial? Narrative, vocal, voiceover, etc? Or is it whatever you want to call it? I’m just curious.

I certainly would use a large diaphram mic and pre-amp … Once you record it and are happy with the content I would first experiment with a low and mid range filter using the PARAMETRIC EQ, then do a hard limit with the max amp set to -.1db … This will fatten it up and give you a really full sound … As for putting a label on it, “VOICE OVER” is pretty much the industry standard but I personally give you permission to call it anything you want Grasshopper …… WILLIE
