  • vob files into vegas VERY short?

Posted by Adam Rose esq. on September 6, 2006 at 5:55 pm

dragged vob files off non-protected DVD into Vegas, and they become seriously shortened. not seen that before

eg 1GB file into Vegas is only about 30 sec long. Just talking head.

    any ideas?

have tried renaming them to .mov
    tried them off HDD

wierd thing is that when are played in PowerDVD, are correct length, eg the 1GB = approx 25 mins.

have edited vob files in vegas before and not had this problem, so would not assume is a hardware issue

    TIA

Something you can do that ALWAYS works:

    DVD Player -> analog -> camera/deck/convertor -> firewire -> computer

    Press capture on the computer
Press Play on the DVD player

    Then there’s always Cinematize…..

    …..for extracting clips from NON-copyrighted/protected DVD’s.

One client sends me DVD’s that were somehow done with no menu. It’s easy to extract the VOB’s from the DVD using Cinematize, add the chapters and menu and put it back onto a DVD master for him. I didn’t need to do anything with the original movie and it didn’t need to be re-rendered.

Then there’s many times I use Ed’s advice in the post above if I actually need to change the video.

Some VOBs look weird in Vegas. I deal with this before. Another solution for editing (have to render):

1.- Have VOB in your hard drive (rip DVD with any tool you want).
2.- Use DVD2AVI to make a d2v file. Demux audio to put on Vegas timeline.
3.- Use VFAPI to make the d2v an AVI compliant. VERY FAST and easy.
4.- Drop the AVI on Vegas (with the corresponding audio) timeline and edit as a normal AVI.
    5.- Render. DONE.

Always work. Same process as capturing from DVD player without the capturing time (just ripping DVD time).

    All the best.
